When to Send A Sympathy Card

Following the demise of a relative or friend, we often grieve for the one we have lost and forget about the ones who have been left behind. If you are mourning the demise of a near-and-dear, think of the ones who had been closest to him or her. They deserve your sympathy more than you think. Sympathy is not synonymous to pity but rather to a token of courage. All you need to express your sympathy towards someone is a Sympathy Card. And you will probably never realize how much good this might do to the person.

People often remember to send Sympathy Cards to friends and colleagues and acquaintances outside the family. But when they are themselves mourning, they tend to forget that there may be someone within the family whose suffering is greater than theirs. We may as well give a call of sympathy to someone in grief, or even pay a visit to the person, for that matter. But after you put down the receiver or leave the person’s place, your words will fly off and the person will be left again with her or his pains and solitude. Pen down your words of courage and they will stay. The one who is in grief might need those words for a long time to come.

Indeed, Sympathy Cards are not only a great way to show your support towards people who need it during a period of mourning, they are also effective for you to share a common grief with family and friends. The Sympathy Card will keep the memories of the demise alive for quite some time and will help addressee to observe the mourning period. In truth, mourning is important so that you can then get over the grief and get on with life.

However, Sympathy Cards can also be presented to people who are going through or have just come out of a rough phase in their life, as for instance a rough divorce or separation, financial difficulties, a downfall in career, or even a terminal illness. Some may feel that Get Well Cards are more appropriate under the latter circumstances, but family and friends of the person who is terminally ill do realize that time is short.

You can also find a few Sympathy Cards at stores which bear a light touch of humor. You may be thinking that this would be most inappropriate, but, of course depending upon circumstances, these cards might actually cheer someone up when one badly needs it. Because Sympathy Cards can be used in different, yet equally delicate, circumstances, it is important that you pay particular attention to the wordings and only pick up the most appropriate ones.
